What started off as a conversation many years ago at the West Texas Guitar Festival has become a reality thanks to our team of local guitar educators. We are thrilled to lead BCGO and hope to inspire our community's musical aspirations.

​A graduate of the Texas Tech school of music in 2007, Joe has experienced a rich career in music education as a middle school, high school, and college guitar director. His students have gone to become studio engineers, professional performers, and educators and have studied guitar with some of the best in the industry. His contributions to guitar education include creating, implementing, and expanding classroom guitar curriculum for Ector County ISD, advocating for guitar education at the state level, and co chairing the West Texas Guitar Festival. Joe also travels as a teacher clinician and sits on the board for the Texas Guitar Directors Association.​Performance wise, he serves as a musician for several churches in the permian basin contributing his talents on classical guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and the mandolin. He also performs for special events and is a frequent performer for the WestTexas Jazz Society. In addition, He has played with the Lubbock symphony, performed with his band Phresh Code on the 2014 Vans Warped Tour, opened for Pepe Romero, and is currrently preparing to be a touring guitarist for a Christian artist in December 2025. ​Joe continues to serve his community and in 2024 spearheaded the initiative to create what is now known as the Basin Community Guitar Orchestra. It has been a dream of his to offer an opportunity for his many students that have graduated, to come back to the guitar and enjoy being in an ensemble once again. He hopes to continue to grow BCGO into something that truly impacts the Permian Basin community

Jacob Porter is a guitarist who studied under Susan Graham at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he received degrees in Classical Guitar Performance and Business Administration. He went on to study under Robert Guthrie at Southern Methodist University where he received his Masters of Music in Classical Guitar Performance.In 2023, Mr. Porter released a CD of classical music titled “Origins”. In 2001, Mr. Porter had the privilege of performing for the opening of Southern Methodist University's Meadows Museum of Art, at which the King of Spain was in attendance. He attended The Aspen Music Festival and School in 2000, where he studied with Sharon Isbin and Lily Afshar. He has performed concerts throughout the southern United States and has performed in master classes given by Christopher Parkening, Muriel Anderson, Karl Maria von Kruger, Lily Afshar, Miguel Antonio, Jorge Morel, and Sharon Isbin. Mr. Porter has given master classes on classical guitar technique and has organized presentations on South American music and the life and music of Heitor Villa-Lobos.Mr. Porter currently teaches as an Adjunct Instructor at The University of Texas: Permian Basin. Previously, he taught classical guitar at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and was Director of Music Ministries for Asbury United Methodist Church. Mr. Porter is also a full-time English teacher for Midland Legacy High School.  In his spare time, he enjoys building guitarsthrough his start-up company StrangeWood Guitar Co. with which he has built upwards of 25 guitars. A native of Odessa, Connor Leggett now lives in Lubbock but still spends time in the Midland -Odessa area. He graduated from Midland Classical Academy in 2010 and from Texas Tech University in 2014. Having received his first guitar just before he turned 7, his teachers have included Texas Tech University professor David Brandon and the legendary Los Romeros guitar quartet. Connor has taught guitar classes in multiple schools but now focuses on private lessons at the West Texas Music Academy in addition to his duties as the worship leader at the Christian Church of Midland.
